Animals We Care For

Like many clinics in the area, we provide care for local dogs and cats, but as one of the few clinics with a doctor focused on exotic companion animals, we can see many kinds of pets, not just our furry friends. If you do not see your furry, feathered, or scaled friend on this list, please feel free to contact us to ask if they can be seen.

Dogs & Cats

When it comes to our furry friends, both of our doctors will see dogs and cats. If your dog or cat is nervous about coming in to see us, feel free to
give us a call or message us to let us know what they are like so that we can help make their visit as comfortable as possible. Both of our doctors
are Fear Free Certified, and Dr. Turpen is also Low Stress Handling Certified to help with this as well.

Small Mammals

Our smaller furry friends need care as well, whether it is an emergency or a general checkup, to ensure they are as healthy as possible and have appropriate housing and care. There are a number of small mammals that we see, including:

  • Rabbits
  • Guinea Pigs
  • Chinchillas
  • Degus
  • Rats
  • Mice
  • Gerbils
  • Hamsters
  • Sugar Gliders
  • Hedgehogs
  • Ferrets
  • Pot-Bellied Pigs

Birds

Many of our feathered friends have lifespans longer than those of the average dog or cat. We understand that, with this longer lifespan, your bird has truly become a member of the family, and how much care you want to provide them. We will see many kinds of birds, including:

  • Parrots
  • Songbirds
  • Pigeons
  • Doves
  • Raptors
  • Owls
  • Cranes and Herons
  • Piciformes (Toucans, Woodpeckers, Aracaris)
  • Loris and Lorekeets
  • Chickens
  • Ducks
  • Peafowl
  • Gulls

Reptiles, Amphibians, & Aquatic

Scaly friends may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we certainly love seeing them here. These cold-blooded friends have their own health issues that we are often capable of treating. At U-Vet Animal Clinic, we will see:

  • Non-venomous Snakes
  • Leopard and Crested Geckos
  • Bearded Dragon
  • Other Lizards (Iguanas, Monitors, Water Dragons, etc)
  • Tortoises
  • Turtles
  • Frogs
  • Toads
  • Axolotls
  • Salamanders
  • Newts
  • Fish (limited diagnostic and treatment capability)
  • Hermit Crabs

Wildlife

Wildlife can sometimes need our care. We can see wildlife, but there are a few more rules to follow. If one of these animals is living under your roof, please keep in mind that you will need a permit to keep them there and bring them in for elective procedures (Injuries and illness can be seen, but no unnecessary treatments, including nail trimming, can be performed). If you have an injured wild animal, an exception can be made, but please keep in mind that if you bring a wild animal to us, you are expected to cover the cost of treatment, as we do not have a fund for treating injured animals. Also, be prepared that these species often require sedation or anesthesia for safe handling to prevent them from harming themselves, you, or the medical staff. Animals that fall under the wildlife category that we can treat include:

  • Foxes
  • Racoons
  • Opossums
  • Possums
  • Squirrels
  • Skunks
  • Chipmunks
  • Servals
  • Wolves/Wolf-Hybrids
  • Bobcats
  • Honey Bees

Animals We Will NOT See

While we love all animals, there are some we simply cannot see due to rules within our building, a lack of proper protective equipment, or a lack of personnel on our team with the proper training to keep us, you, and your animal safe. These Include:

  • Insects, Excluding Honey Bees
  • Venomous Snakes
  • Any kind of arachnid
  • Primates
  • Scorpions
  • Farm and Food Animals, Excluding Chickens and potbellied pigs
